President Barrow Tours Farato Health Complex and The National Food and Drug Laboratory

His Excellency President Adama Barrow on Saturday visited two major national health facilities currently nearing completion; the National Emergency Health Centre in Farato and the National Food and Drug Laboratory in Brusubi. These developments mark a significant milestone in The Gambia’s efforts to modernize its healthcare system and expand access to high-quality medical services for all citizens.

The Farato Health Complex, envisioned as an integrated “health city,” is designed to bring a wide range of essential health services under one modern, efficient hub. The facility will include emergency and trauma treatment services, the National Blood Transfusion Service, advanced imaging and diagnostic capabilities such as CT and MRI, a public health laboratory, and a teaching hospital equipped with an intensive care unit. The Brusubi complex will also house the national Food and Drugs Testing Laboratory, ensuring stronger regulatory systems and improved public health safety.

President Barrow’s tour showcased the substantial progress made so far, with much of the specialized equipment already delivered and installation underway. The President commended the ongoing work and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the national health infrastructure as part of its broader development agenda.

With the Farato Health Complex and the Brusubi Lab taking shape, The Gambia is moving closer to providing world-class healthcare within its borders, reducing the need for overseas medical referrals and improving emergency preparedness. The visit underscored a future where advanced, reliable, and comprehensive health services are available to every Gambian, marking a bold step toward a healthier nation.
