There is no cause for alarm. Several ongoing response activities include active case search, contact tracing and community engagement to prevent the outbreak from spreading. Our health workers have been trained to deal with the situation. Please follow their advice.
Mpox is a disease caused by a virus. It transmitted from animals to humans and between humans. That can spread through close physical contact, including direct skin-to-skin contact, contact with bodily fluids, or contaminated materials like clothing or bedding. Symptoms often include a rash that can look like pimples or blisters, accompanied by fever, headache, muscle aches, and swollen lymph nodes.
To protect yourself and your loved ones, please follow these precautions:
- Avoid close contact with individuals showing symptoms of Mpox, particularly those with rashes or sores.
- Practice good hand hygiene by washing your hands frequently with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Do not share personal items such as clothing, bedding, and towels, especially those who may be ill.
- If you develop a new, unexplained rash or experience any Mpox-like symptoms, seek medical attention immediately at your nearest health facility. Self-isolate until you receive medical advice.
- Notify health workers of suspected cases in your community to facilitate testing and support.
The Ministry of Health is closely monitoring the situation and will provide further updates as needed. Your cooperation is crucial in containing this outbreak. For any concerns or more information, please call our toll-free number, 1025.
